We’ll see when they check into the chart. Despite their debut album being pushed back to March, the group is charging ahead with this cut and could be spinning on the air soon. Last year, the English group went top ten on the CHR chart with “Me And My Broken Heart”, but their momentum came to a halt when followup “Wait On Me” stalled in the 30’s last fall. RIXTON – “Hotel Ceiling” (mid-to-late January – TBD) (*) This hit collaboration recently wrapped itself around the top 5 on the Singles Chart in the United Kingdom, entering the survey at #3. That region is also where it currently sits on my personal chart. (We’ll know shortly if “Wrapped” matches that high point.) Murs hasn’t been as consistent on this side of the world, but I’m certainly rooting for this to break here. OLLY MURS featuring TRAVIE MCCOY – “Wrapped Up”(January 27) (*) Already playing on Hits 1 and other outlets, this “body” is exercising some musical muscle. If she’s gotta stay high, then this single could be the one to take her back to the top. “Talking” is the follow-up to “Habits (Stay High)”, which spent one week at #1 back in November, while parent album Queen Of The Clouds ascended the sky to #14 on the Billboard 200. TOVE LO – “Talking Body” (January 20) (*) “Bed” has been another strong streamer, but with CHR’s sleeping on prior releases, the dream is a difficult one. Even “Anaconda”, a big digital hit with an eye-popping music video to boot, missed the top 20 and fell sharply. Though Urban radio has fully embraced Minaj’s latest era, The Pinkprint, programmers at pop radio haven’t warmed up to the new music. NICKI MINAJ featuring SKYLAR GREY – “Bed Of Lies”(January 13) (*) This second pairing, a top ten single across the globe last year, has big potential here too. Two years ago, the Scottish DJ/producer and English chanteuse collaborated on “I Need Your Love”, climbing up into the top 5 on CHR radio late in the summer. Some say that lightning doesn’t strike twice, but Harris and Goulding are looking to prove that theory wrong. Sure, this song is no “Wake Me Up!”, but hey, what is?ĬALVIN HARRIS featuring ELLIE GOULDING – “Outside” (January 13) (*) The Swedish DJ/producer’s latest single is already selling well on digital outlets like iTunes with a small amount of airplay thus far. It was “The Days” that looked CHR-bound a few months ago, but that was abruptly pulled from the schedule. Maybe the change in time will change up the airwaves this spring. Happy New Year to all of the PGTC readers around the world! It’s time once again to search the airwaves and find out if your favorite songs will be lighting up the national charts in 2015. Wanderer – “Call Me Crazy (Acoustic)” ( SoundCloud) Mikey Wax – “Never Letting You Go” ( SoundCloud) Though this doesn’t approach “Over & Over” or “Karaoke” for me yet, it fits nicely with their usual aesthetic and sound.įor more great new music, these tunes are worth a listen… SMALLPOOLS – “Million Bucks” ( iTunes) ( Spotify)Īfter parting ways with RCA, this Los Angeles trio is back to rock the charts with their forthcoming independent EP, The Science Of Letting Go. So far this year, Nashville singer/songwriter Reynolds has appeared as the featured artist on two solid songs, but it’s his first main-credited single for 2017 that serves future pop perfection for the weekend (as if the title wasn’t a dead giveaway.) It’s pretty catchy! KYLE REYNOLDS – “Friday Saturday Sunday” ( iTunes) ( Spotify)
Of Belle’s set of stand-alone singles during the last year, this is my favorite one so far. Seems like we’ve had a lot of radio singles with the word “down” in their titles recently, so I guess it’s only right to spotlight a digital song that gets “down” with what’s headed up. If it’s on the site, it’s something that you need to check out!Īcross the PGTC SoundCloud page and my playlists on Spotify, these stuck out as my favorite independent songs of the week…ĪNDREW BELLE – “Down” ( iTunes) ( Spotify) Sunday afternoon means it’s time for the Record Rewind, highlighting the top new tracks that you might’ve missed during the work week, all from my favorite independent acts out there.
